WHAT WE STAND FOR

My Death, My Decision is a grassroots movement that campaigns for assisted dying reform. We want a compassionate law on assisted dying that permits a medically assisted death to adults of sound mind who are suffering intolerably or terminally ill. We believe reform is necessary to reduce the suffering of individuals who are close to death, and, just as importantly, to give choice to those with physical, incurable conditions who face years of constant pain or suffering that they find unbearable.

THE ASSISTED DYING BILL

The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill has passed its first major vote in Parliament, called the Second Reading. This means MPs have agreed to the general idea of the Bill, with 330 votes in favour and 275 against. The next steps involve carefully checking all the details and deciding if anything needs to be changed.

This is the biggest opportunity in a decade to change the law, we have ever had.

Change hasn’t happened yet – we need your support, now more than ever. Please tell your local politician that it is your death, your decision – and you want them to support the Bill.

WHY WE'RE CAMPAIGNING

One person a week goes to Switzerland from the UK for an assisted death – more than twice as many as a few years ago. Families have to let someone they love travel and die alone, or risk up to 14 years imprisonment for going with them. For many, it’s an impossibly difficult or expensive journey. We know there is a safe and compassionate alternative.

Nearly 90% of people want assisted dying reform for people who are suffering intolerably or terminally ill. Respect for choice and autonomy is what protects the most vulnerable amongst us. My Death, My Decision is calling for robust safeguards – if so many other countries can achieve this in a safe and legal manner, why can’t we?

It is time for change.
